Meet Mary Walsh - the handcraft artist behind Olann Iontach
"Hi, I'm Mary and im a self taught fibre artist from Cork. I've had a passion for art from an early age. I had always dreamed of becoming an art teacher. However after securing my place in art college i quickly realized it wasn't for me. I felt out of place and began to question my work. I took the difficult decision to leave college and my art behind.
For many years i stop being creative until one night i saw a video on YouTube of needle felting and thought id give it a try. I ordered a batch of wool from my local craft shop and started experimenting. I was instantly HOOKED. I have fallen in love with this incredible art form. It allows me the freedom to create whatever i can image. From intricate wool paintings to wool sculptures and home decor. Anything is possible!
I particularly love creating pieces inspired by nature and our native animals. Pet portraits and family frames are another aspect which i particularly enjoy.
I have recently started producing art prints of my larger pieces and also have a range of cushions featuring my original art work.
Im currently working on some new pieces from which i hope to create a range of homeware items."
